East View Launches Slavic E-book Approval Plan Program

MINNEAPOLIS, USA. February 15, 2022 – East View Information Services, a leading provider of high-quality information products and services, is pleased to announce the launch of a new Slavic e-book approval plan program, which features customized e-book selection and full MARC records services.

East View’s mission for the Slavic e-book approval plan program is to provide access to scholarly materials as quickly and efficiently as possible, particularly when the receipt and circulation of print materials remains uncertain. “Given the ongoing challenges of in-person learning, e-books provide an equitable way to serve all students, faculty, staff, and patrons,” said Zina Somova, East View’s Director of Operations “An e-book approval plan is an excellent way to supplement existing print approval plans and can be a cost-effective way to make sure academic materials continue to be accessible to researchers.”

East View initially launched the Slavic e-book approval plan program last year as a pilot, with four participating academic institutions serving as a test group, and another three joining in late 2021. Following a successful pilot period with high usage, East View is pleased to now offer this program to the broader North American academic community and is happy to discuss any unique selection requirements with interested institutions.

Much like our well-established print book approval plans, the Slavic e-book approval plan program takes advantage of East View’s many years of experience supplying academic, public, and government libraries with foreign language materials, as well as our long-standing relationships with top academic Russian publishers, to provide customers with high-quality scholarly works specifically tailored to their needs.

East View’s e-book platform incorporates features essential to academic libraries and researchers, including EZProxy compatibility, full-image content with searchable text, citation generators, and advanced Boolean search options with virtual keyboards for multiple languages. Robust organizational tools enable easy browsing by subject, publisher, collection and year, while powerful cross-searchability with other East View databases increases efficiency and breadth of research.

Slavic e-book approval plans from East View are designed to save libraries time and effort. We work with libraries to establish unique profiles outlining general and specific selection parameters, such as publishers and subjects. Beyond selection criteria, East View supports libraries by providing cost-effective full MARC records to facilitate timely processing and access to the selected materials.
