| In 1973, during excavations on the west wall of the stone fortress of the first Bulgarian capital Pliska Professor Liudima Doncheva Petkova -found triple relic Cross honor - two golden and one wooden, put one into another. The golden crosses are implemented with scenes from Christ's holidays, passed by a miniature thread satory and in chronological order. The author's work with this acquired already world fame monument direct her towards of investigation of different pectoral crosses. More than 30 years, she search for, collect and analyze encolpia-crosses found in the Bulgarian capitals of Pliska, Preslav and Veliko Turnovo, in many towns, castles, villages, religious centers, necropolises. Their number is over 1350. The book concerned questions about the emergence of the crosses, their functions and symbolism. An accurate classification has been made - the crosses are separated by material, shape, manner of construction, iconography. The book contains also introduction in English and and album with photos of the researched crosses. |
