East View Information Services releases AAASS NewsNet Digital Archive

Minneapolis, Minnesota, September 6, 2007 - East View Information Services, a world leader in providing information databases, periodicals and books from Russia, today released AAASS NewsNet Digital Archive . The new online database includes the complete backfiles of the newsmagazine of the American Association for the Advancement of Slavic Studies (AAASS) from 1960 through May, 2006. .

Over the years, NewsNet has reflected the changes in the state of knowledge of and interest in the former Soviet Union and the eastern bloc in the United States. It is one of the best sources for tracing the evolution of Western scholarship on this region in the social sciences, history, language and literature.

"We are proud to enable worldwide distribution via the Internet of NewsNet contributors' voices," said Kent D. Lee, East View's President and CEO.

Trial access to AAASS NewsNet Digital Archive is now available at http://online.eastview.com . All content is English-language.

This retrospective look at the news of the AAASS reflects the changing priorities of the field of Slavic Studies in the United States through the programs, papers and panels of annual AAASS conferences. It also shows development of US academic response to rising and then waning Soviet power through the creation and expansion of departments, teaching appointments, summer programs, and grant awards.

AAASS NewsNet Digital Archive was made in association with and the full cooperation of AAASS and the NewsNet staff. This is a full-image online database, fully machine searchable. It runs on the East View's UDB™ platform with the same search tools; integrated for cross-searching with any other databases on the UDB platform.
