Daily updates for CNKI content
CNKI content is now updated daily for East View customers. Since May, 2007, East View and TTKN have implemented a direct link between TTKN’s Beijing servers and East View’s mirror in Minneapolis. As a result, the Beijing and Minneapolis servers are now synchronized via daily updates. This means that content that would previously have taken as long as four months to become accessible for East View customers in North America and Europe is now available immediately. This gives East View’s customers the same frequency of updates available to domestic users in China.
New CAJ Viewer (7.0) includes an English-language version
CNKI’s CAJ Viewer, an alternative to Adobe Acrobat for downloading files, is now available in an English version. The new viewer is very similar in look and feel to Acrobat. For users who are more comfortable using Adobe, Acrobat remains an option. All CAJ files may be downloaded in the PDF format compatible with Acrobat. You can upgrade to CAJ Viewer 7.0, via the menu link shown above.
CNKI Forthcoming Features, available in KNS 5.0 updates
Reorganized search interface (in KNS5.0 update)
CNKI has organized search fields more thoughtfully in the coming KNS 5.0 release, resulting in an interface that is more orderly and easier to use for entering search criteria. East View worked with CNKI advocating for changes in their North American products. We think you will find them more closely aligned with North American user expectations.
Search term(s) remain in the search box for cross-database searches (in KNS5.0 update)
In the upcoming KNS 5.0 update, advanced searching may be easier because the terms of your original search stay in the Search Term box when you see search results. This helps you know what results you are looking at and may help you create a new or refined query.
Trouble shooting page (in KNS5.0 updates)
Now users will be able to report problems without leaving the database. The new troubleshooting report form will also help us resolve issues more quickly. Troubleshooting reports go directly to database administrators, allowing East View to respond more quickly. The form gathers information that allows us to troubleshoot more efficiently and to reply to users for additional clarification where necessary.
Drop-down menu lists individual years prior to 1979
Changes to the drop-down menu for year(s) selection will now allow users to pinpoint archival content and narrow their search results. Years prior to 1979 are now broken down individually.
New usage statistics features and formats (forthcoming)
The usage statistics features for CNKI products are undergoing improvements based on feedback from East View and North American customers. Changes will be rolled out in an update of the KNS platform scheduled for later this year. Among the improvements to look for: an English-language interface and the ability to retrieve series-specific usage statistics. East View is working with CNKI to advocate for features and formats that make CNKI usage statistics more efficient and meaningful to your e-resource administration.
