East View Information Services certified to offer COUNTER compliant usage reports
For Immediate Release Minneapolis, Minnesota based East View Information Services (EVIS) announced today that it will provide COUNTER compliant usage statistics for its Universal Databases™. The COUNTER (Counting Online Usage of Networked Electronic Resources) usage reports tell East View's customer librarians about East View's online titles and how they are used at a particular library. The Universal Databases™ from East View Information Services are the world's largest collection of current and historical foreign language materials from Russia, Ukraine, and other former Soviet bloc states. "COUNTER compliance represents acceptance into a high-end club of information providers." said Kirill Fesenko, EVIS Online Publishing Director. "COUNTER reports help libraries learn how their patrons use licensed databases." COUNTER's standardized reports will be a valued service to East View customers worldwide - some of the world's largest academic libraries. Reports will be available in customer directories on the East View website. COUNTER provides consistent standards and protocols to measure the usage of online books, reference works, journals and databases. Having this information will help librarians track their electronic resource usage and provide guidance for promotions. It will aid librarians to review their internet integration and support their library instruction programs. To achieve Certification for COUNTER Compliance East View committed to technological and organizational changes. East View implemented special modules and testing at the same time updating and maintaining their comprehensive and dynamic Universal Databases™. In committing to COUNTER and its standardized reports, East View furthered its support of forward looking libraries that are leaning more heavily on online resources every year. As more patrons access library resources from the web, directors and managers of libraries of every size will need clear, standardized usage reports to guide their investment in online material and to market collections to their communities.
