Volume 6: Antarktika [Antarctic]
At a time of rising concern about the global climate change, Antarctica for many is a "wild card" unlike any other part of the world. This profound volume summarizes the state of knowledge of this region on the threshold of the 21st century. Quite possibly the best comprehensive atlas of the Antarctic region ever to be published in any language, this massive work summarizes the accumulated geoscientific knowledge of Earth's southern polar region through the end of the 20th century. While mostly in Russian, the atlas is easily utilized by English-speakers owing to a completely bilingual tale of contents. This volume is an essential reference tool for academic and major public libraries, as well as for a wide range of readers interested in the geoscientific nature of Antarctica. Hundreds of maps and diagrams, all presented with exceptionally clear cartography and design.

St. Petersburg: GUNiO, 2005. 300 pp. Size 35 x 46cm, weight 5 kg. Primarily in Russian, but with English/Russian table of contents and extensive English summary.
